Cool bands you might not know about yet:
Alyson B. - a great french singer, previously of emopopcore band Lack Of Reason. Check her out, she's got a beautiful voice along with very emotional music.
Blanket - the voice of an angel mixed with wicked instruments and songs.
Dexter Bentley - a slight Doors influence for these misfits, with socially aware yet not too serious lyrics. Very good stage presence, catch them live if you can!
Dresden Dolls - OK, they're not exactly unknown but i love them. "Cabaret punk" describes their album best and their live show carries on the magic! Check them out if you haven't done so yet!! Their 2nd album is coming out in April 2006.
Duke Spirit - excellent female-fronted punk soul rock'n'roll band from London.
Geek Girl - if you like a bit of eccentric vocals in your indie pop and a great stage persona then look no further...
James III and the courtesan - electro music with a punk attitude. Wall of noise and catchy riffs...
Jesus Licks - don't let their sweet tunes and the banjo fool you, the singer will kill you if you disagree with her!
The Pipas - cool girl-boy duo from London. Bittersweet and cool tunes, if you like your indie pop with a twist, this is for you!
Wilberforce - UK pop at its best! Witty lyrics, unusual yet lushious harmonies, great sounding guitars...
Cool music stuff:
Book Your Own Fuckin' Life - worldwide resource listings for everything punk and DIY. From bands to infoshops via people offering crash pads etc
CDBaby - get your fix of worldwide independent music!
Church of Girl, internet radio - my favourite internet radio station! Focuses on female-fronted bands, from many different genres. It is based in Portland, so there's fair a amount of riot grrrl/Kill Rock Stars/Chainsaw Rds/K Records related bands - totally the stuff i dig!
Last Fm, internet music community - simply one of the best places to check out new bands you are likely to like. Works with a very clever "musical neighbourg" system. Their computer suggests to you bands according to your taste.
Plan B magazine - a really cool indie music magazine.
Resonance (104.40 FM) - simply the best radio station in London! My fav' show is "Hello Goodbye" show on saturdays from noon to 1pm...
Windmill Brixton - excellent venue in Brixton, London! Cheap gigs with top quality local, national and international bands... This is the best indie/punk venue in South London in my humble opinion!
Various stuff for musicians:
Bemuso - very well researched and complete information about everything a musician needs to know about the "music business" as a whole.
Sound On Sound forum - if you want to learn how to record and mix your stuff, there's loads of interesting and knowledgable people on there.
Strings Direct UK - a web-shop to buy guitar accessories. The best one i've come accross - they deliver on the following day. And no, i have no shares in the company!
Winstone's (for drummers) - for all your drumming accessories. Cheap and efficient service.
